Keyboard Studio Support
Setup guides and troubleshooting for Keyboard Studio on iPhone and iPad.
1. Enable Keyboard Studio
Add Keyboard Studio as a system keyboard:
→ General
→ Keyboard
→ Keyboards
→ Add New Keyboard
→ Keyboard Studio
After adding the keyboard, open any text field, tap and hold the Globe key (or use the keyboard switcher), and choose Keyboard Studio.
2. Enable Full Access
Full Access is optional. Without Full Access, basic typing works, the bundled offline lexicon works, gestures and layouts work, and safe defaults are available.
With Full Access enabled:
- Settings saved in the containing App may synchronize through the local App Group container
- Quick Phrases and Personal Dictionary created in the App may be available to the keyboard
- System keyboard click audio may be available when enabled
Full Access does not enable networking in Keyboard Studio. Keyboard Studio contains no feature that uploads keystrokes. Full Access is not limited to sound only.
To enable Full Access, open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Keyboard Studio and turn on Allow Full Access.
3. Keyboard click sound troubleshooting
If click sound is missing or inconsistent, check these steps:
- Enable Keyboard Feedback Sound in iOS Settings.
- Enable System Click Sound in Keyboard Studio.
- Save settings in Keyboard Studio.
- Enable Full Access for Keyboard Studio.
- Remove and re-add the keyboard, or restart the Extension session where needed.
- Confirm the Apple keyboard produces sound on your device.
- Note that custom-keyboard click loudness may differ from the Apple keyboard.
Do not install custom audio files for this feature. Keyboard Studio uses system keyboard click audio when available.
4. Haptics troubleshooting
Keyboard Studio offers configurable haptic feedback, including Light, Medium, and Strong settings. Physical feedback varies by device model, system haptic settings, and whether haptics are supported on that hardware. If feedback feels weak or absent, confirm system haptics are enabled and try a different intensity in Keyboard Studio.
5. Quick Phrases
Create Quick Phrases in the Keyboard Studio App. Phrases are stored locally. With Full Access enabled, phrases created in the App may become available to the Keyboard Extension through the local App Group container.
6. Personal Dictionary
Add words to your Personal Dictionary in the App. Entries remain local. With Full Access enabled, dictionary entries created in the App may be available to the keyboard through the local App Group container.
7. Local Candidates
Local word candidates are generated on-device. They do not require a network connection and are not uploaded by Keyboard Studio.
8. Local Autocorrection
Bundled autocorrection is optional and off by default. When enabled, it works locally using on-device resources, including the bundled offline lexicon.
9. Long-press alternate characters
Press and hold a key to access alternate characters where available, then slide to the character you want and release.
10. Spacebar cursor movement
Slide on the spacebar to move the cursor. This gesture works as part of the keyboard’s local input controls.
11. One-handed layouts
Choose left or right one-handed layouts to bring keys closer for single-hand typing. You can switch back to the standard layout at any time.
12. iPad adaptive layout
On iPad, Keyboard Studio provides adaptive layouts intended to fit common iPad typing arrangements. Layout availability depends on your device and orientation.
13. Restore Safe Defaults
If settings become confusing or typing behavior feels unexpected, use Restore Safe Defaults in Keyboard Studio. This returns configurable options to a known-safe baseline while leaving your decision about Full Access under your control in iOS Settings.
14. Switch keyboards with Globe
Tap the Globe key, or tap and hold it, to switch between Keyboard Studio and other keyboards installed on your device.
15. Full Access privacy FAQ
Does Full Access upload what I type?
No. Full Access does not enable networking in Keyboard Studio. Keyboard Studio contains no feature that uploads keystrokes.
What does Full Access allow?
Full Access may allow the Keyboard Extension to read locally shared settings, Quick Phrases, and Personal Dictionary data from the App Group container and to request system keyboard click audio when enabled.
Is Full Access required?
No. Without Full Access, basic typing, the bundled offline lexicon, gestures, layouts, and safe defaults remain available.
